John Bennett designed Beta 40 Trawler Yacht, the first of 4 built by Steelcraft in Hull, later the Beta 40 by Colvic in GRP. She would make an ideal offshore family motor yacht or liveaboard cruiser. Webasto heating, hot water, fridge, 6 berths in 2 cabins. Electric anchor windlass, davits, dinghy and outboard plus radar and autopilot too.

Built in 1980 and commissioned in 1984, steel construction with 5mm steel plate hull, 3/16" deck and 1/8" superstructure plating. Underwater sections shot blasted and epoxy coated in 1999.

Mechanical

Twin Ford 8000 series 140hp 6 cylinder inboard diesel engines. Shaft drive through hydraulic PRM reduction gearboxes to to fixed 3 blade bronze 21 x 21 propellers. Engine hours at listing Port 0802.1 Starboard 0844.4. 2 x 45 gallon fuel talks. Max speed around 12 knots.

Electrical

Alternator charging to 5 x 12v batteries. 2 x 12v wired as 24v dedicated power supply to radar, 1 x 12v domestic 140Ah, 2 x 12v engine start. 240v shore power. 1000w petrol driven generator. Inverter.

Navigation

Wagner magnetic compass with correctors, Navico 160 video depth sounder, Skanti TRP2500 GB VHF radio with Sellcall facility, Wagner S50 autopilot, Raytheon 270 radar, Shipmate RS4001 GPS, polished brass clock and barometer, navigation lights.

Safety

Fire extinguishers, gas detector, smoke detector, electric bilge pump, manual bilge pump.

Deck Gear

Pushpit, pulpit and rails, cockpit cushions, boarding ladder, wheel steering, Avon 9ft inflatable dinghy with 4hp 4 stroke outboard, davits, 86lb stockless anchor with 200ft of 3/8" chain, Tiger electric or manual anchor windlass, 6 mooring warps and 6 fenders.

Domestic

Webasto diesel warm air heating. Becker Mexico sound system. Her galley has a Flavel B700B gas cooker with 2 burners, oven and grill, microwave, refrigerator, pots, pans, cutlery and crockery, hot and cold water supply to sink. Hot water is via a Paloma gas water heater. Jabsco water pressure feeder with expansion tank. Her separate heads compartment has a marine toilet and shower.

ACCOMMODATION

6 berths in 2 cabins.

Owners Comments

"Condor of Colne" has been in current family ownership since 2000. Surveys were carried out in 200) for purchase and 2003 for insurance after some restoration. She has been a much loved boat over the years, one of only 4 built in steel.
