OWNERS REMARKS

My family has had many enjoyable days boating in Seaspray. she is a fine seaworthy fishing boat, the previous owner was a trawlerman who lived in Whitstable and used to fish from her miles out in the middle of the Thames Estuary. He put a strong anchor and a lot of chain and mooring warp on her. I have also sailed her in rough water, she always handled the large waves of the Blackwater Estuary well.

Initially we trailer-sailed her from the slipway on Osea island, where we rented a flat between 2001 and 2005. She then moved to a summer berth at Tollesbury Marina, from where we did short outings to West Mersea and upstream to Maldon, we kept her under cover on her trailer each winter. We asked Tollesbury Marina to launch her for me in April 2011 , but the bungs were not checked beforehand and the boat sank on her mooring. I had to buy a new Mercury 40hp engine to replace the old Mercury and new batteries.

ln 2015 we moved to Wrabness and keep her covered up in a barn on her trailer each winter. In summer we found it difficult to launch off slipways onto the Stour, though we managed to do this from Bradfield and from the beach at Harwich. Instead, I rented a swinging berth on the Stour at Wrabness for the summers. I had an Avon inflatable to row out to her. I had a self-bailing system installed and kept her covered white she was on the mooring. I put an anti-chafing system on the anchor line. As my children got bigger it became hard to fit myself and my wife and two of them on board! We have nevertheless done outings up the Stour to Manningtree and up the Orwell to Pin Mill.
